Nothing stands still, and the next decade brought new winds of changes.

Starting from 1985 the troupe began its work being coordinated by Ants Vähejaus, who continued the traditions, creating new performances and teaching new dancers simultaneously. But anyway, there were not so many changes in variete’s approach to work. The traditional activity carried on, as we all know that the must go on, always! The dancer has to do some routine work to get in shape and keep that state. In the mornings there were rehearsals in the building of the State Philarmonic Society, and in the evenings there were four hour rehearsals in the variete hall of Viru hotel, until the show began at 21.00. Hard work brought its fruits – many group dancers have grown into successful solo-performers. As an example we can give Tatyana Narma, Ella Rossmann, Sirre Oengo-Anderson, Nina Sopova, Irina Kruglova, Gennadi Jakovlev, Kristjan Härm.

Many Viru Variete visits abroad were a result of hard work and lifting up the level of professionalism. In July of 1988 Viru Variete was the first ever Estonian variete to go to Kotka, Finland, to perform at the annual Sea Days with a troupe of 35 artists and with different 2-hour programs.

In August 1989, in Sochi, Viru Variete performed 11 shows, 1,5 hours each. 1990 was full of performances abroad. Helsinki, Leningrad, Turku. In Turku Viru Variete performed 2 hours non-stop. Before Viru Variete performed, guitar classic Francis Goya had played an hour-long concert. In this year there have also been numerous solo-performances in Finland.

In the year 1991 Viru Varitee have been performing for nearly two weeks in the „Night in Venice” operette, in Rewell Centeris. Right after the performance Viru Variete performed in the Waskia night bar.

Year 1993. In the restaurant inside Fargen Sjalland boat-museum (located in the center of Copenhagen) Viru Variete performed 5 times for more than 2000 guests each time. The performance was put together from the best pieces of previous shows, a platinum level collection. Such big performances mean hard work. But being lazy is not about Viru Variete. Hard work can be a pleasure.
